Salvation Army Programs for Seniors

Affiliated with both the Michigan Pharmacists Association and the American Pharmacists Association, Sureshkumar Dakshinamoorthy previously worked as the pharmacist-in-charge at a general pharmacy in Saginaw, Michigan. In his personal life, Sureshkumar Dakshinamoorthy has been a volunteer with his local Salvation Army.

Founded in 1865, The Salvation Army coordinates programs that support people in vulnerable circumstances across the country. In addition to distributing food to families in need and operating homeless shelters, The Salvation Army organizes initiatives to address the needs of seniors, especially those who are homebound or diagnosed with dementia.

Salvation Army volunteers partner with senior living residences and nursing homes to deliver engaging classes and community activities to promote social interaction and learning. The organization also hosts special events such as communal dinners, dance classes, and other gatherings to encourage physical activity and reduce loneliness and cognitive decline. Many Salvation Army facilities also offer transitional housing and adult daycare centers on their premises.
